   The RoHS Directive aims to protect human health and the environment through the restricted use of certain hazardous substances.
   It will become law in the UK by 13 August 2004. The Directive will affect manufacturers, sellers, distributors and recyclers of electrical and electronic equipment containing lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyls or polybrominated diphenyl ethers.
   
   Key points include:
   
   From 1 st July 2006, lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated diphenyl ether will be banned from new electrical and electronic equipment.
   Exemptions will apply but they will be reviewed every four years.
   Compliments the WEEE Directive.
